Atlansys Backup Server in auto on-line mode, encrypts data during backup process on a tape or other backup storage and decrypt data in data restore process. This avoid unauthorized access to confidential data on backup storage.
Atlansys Backup Server is an additional application to HP OpenView Storage Data Protector and backup system with its own user interface
Atlansys Backup Server may be installed on servers with MS Windows Server 2003, with BackUp services support.
After Atlansys Backup Server installation common backup programs work in they usual way, encryption is made on physical sectors level, during tapes format and backup write process by backup software.
To start encryption you only need to load encryption key into a system and link it with backup storage media (streamer or other). These task are solved byAtlansys Backup Server, which lets to load key and to activate streamer encryption locally or remotely via remote console.
Encryption run in special kernel module (kernel driver). Encryption key may be stored on any device (e.g. USB flash, hard drive) in secured place.
Without these keys backup devices will be recognized by system as empty or with unknown format.
Atlansys Backup Server has "Alarm" signal procession means. If it receive this signal, it will delete all encryption keys from memory and all access to backup media will be blocked. If on this server Atlansys Server suite is used, all open protected disks will be blocked on a same signal. To send this signal special device "Red Button" is used.
